Observe – Question – Investigate!
Calling all inquiring minds and budding scientists: The Davis Elementary Science Fair is the opportunity for you!
We encourage all young Einsteins to unleash their potential, creativity, and curiosity by participating in our annual Science Fair. This is a great opportunity for each Davis student to explore their passion, be it geology, music, sports, baking, computers, cat training, or something else entirely.
Projects may be completed individually or in a group of up to three students. The top 3rd through 5th grade projects will be selected to represent Davis at the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival.
Davis Science Fair
2022 Davis Science Fair in the Time of COVID-19
This year the Davis Science Fair is going to see big changes! In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, we’re going 100% virtual!
What does this mean for our students? Rather than creating the traditional tri-fold project boards as in years past, students will download a project board template, designed by coordinators of the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival. This PowerPoint template has been optimized for an experiment and is fully customizable. It can be modified for any of the 3 types of projects allowed at the Davis Science Fair – an experiment, exhibit, or collection.
Download: Elementary Division Project Board Template
**Students may be more familiar working with Google than PowerPoint. If this is the case, the template can also be uploaded as a Google Slide. **
- Open Google Drive
- Create a new Google Slide
- Go to File >> Open >> Upload
- Select the project board template PowerPoint file from the link above to upload
Once opened as a PowerPoint or Google Slide, feel free to modify it and make it your own!
There are a total of 4 slides.
- Slide 1 is the template that the student will use to modify & create their own project board.
- Slide 2 will take the place of the in-person presentation and question & answer session with judges. Please fill this out as thoroughly as possible.
- Slide 3 includes project rules, deadlines, and general format guidelines
- Slide 4 is an example of an experiment

The AERSF How To Do an Elementary Science Fair Project – Student Guide is an excellent resource for getting started. Science Buddies’ review of the scientific method is also helpful for students choosing to do an experiment.
The 2017 Suggested Experiment Timeline gives one framework that some have found helpful for managing their time when completing an experiment for the Science Fair. It was originally developed to match up with the dates and planned topics for the Science Fair Club.
