We need your help. Here’s why:
Our mission is to provide weekend food during the school year for Davis children who may otherwise go without. For some of our Davis Dolphins, their breakfast and lunch at school are the only hot meals they will have during the week and weekend meals are scarce.
How it Works
Each Friday morning, a small team of volunteers fills bags with canned meals, breakfast items, and snacks. These bags are discreetly placed in children’s backpacks by their teachers at the end of the day.
Funding
The food is bought from local retailers at a cost of about $130 per student each year. This year Davis has approximately 90 students receiving bags weekly.
The program is funded through donations from Davis families, generous community members, and the Davis PTA. We also receive gift cards and invaluable help with special orders from our neighborhood North Hills H-E-B.
How You Can Help – Volunteering
If you would like to volunteer to help pack the bags, please join us in the cafeteria right after drop off on Friday mornings. (If there’s no school on Friday, we’ll pack on Thursday.) If Fridays don’t fit your schedule, please email blessings@davisdolphins.org and we’ll notify you when less regular volunteer opportunities arise. (Example: picking up and unloading our huge food orders.)
